General Aviation in Laos |
General Aviation in Laos is very new. The country is trying to encourage tourism and some recent flights into Laos have been successful to Luang Prabang and Vientiane airports. The problem in the past has been corruption in the form of "handling fees" or "security fees." On a trip in 2001 by a US Registered single-engine aircraft, the airport officers attempted to charge "security fees" in Luang Prabang, but were then talked out of this. It is a good idea to take a copy of this receipt with you to show the officials the correct price as quoted in the FAL section of the Lao PDR AIP.

There is also an American running a small charter operation out of Wattay Airport in Vientiane. He has a Cessna 206 and sometimes a Seneca. He is very knowledgable about flying in Laos.
